Being a lady photographer, I know how important it is to look and feel good on your big day. For the bride, it is very special and important day, but at the same time, it’s also very hectic, stressful, and emotional. I would like to give some tips that can ease up some stress and help you plan your day better that will be more organized and enjoyable.

In our experience, we have seen the bride being surprised by the makeup and hair done by their chosen makeup artist. To avoid this, please get a full trial before the wedding and make sure you’re happy with your bridal look. This is extremely important since we have seen bride(s) get very stressed out on their wedding day with unexpected results. Let’s avoid this so we can capture your most natural smiles.

When you are getting ready, choose a room that is not very crowded and well ventilated. It should only have you, couple of bridesmaids, and close family. This way you’ll have more time and better view of what you want to do with your makeup. You can also communicate better with your makeup artist and photographer openly and give plenty of room for the best moments to be captured as you’re getting ready.

As you are getting ready, make sure to have one entertainer around. This can possibly be the photographer, the videographer, the makeup artist, or the bridesmaid. Idea is to capture pictures of the bride from all angles at each stage of getting-ready with natural laughter than staged poses.

Ask your makeup artist to start your makeup first, not your hair. This way the photographer does not have to wait until the makeup starts. This should save you some time on your busy day.

If possible, set up a meeting with both your makeup artist and the photographer together, so you know what’s expected on the big day. This is very important since one person will be making you look gorgeous and the other person will be capturing the beauty of the precious moments as you’re slowly getting ready, that you will be cherishing for a lifetime.

Keep one designated person in your room that has access to the clothes and the jewelry. When getting ready in the morning and something is needed, it is easily accessible. When photographer needs the clothes and the jewelry for detailed shots, the designated person can provide the items right away and the bride does not need to be bothered.

Most importantly, do not stress yourself and ask your family and friends to help out to ease up some of your responsibilities. Do not take too much on your head, keep yourself calm and think this is your day, most important day of your life.

Ask your photographer to come early and take pictures of the clothes before you have to put them on. Ask your makeup artist if they want you to put your dress first before makeup and hair. Everything should be discussed ahead of time and organized with a timeline to enjoy it naturally.

Keeping an organized itinerary for yourself that shows the getting ready timeline, pictures with bridesmaids, family, parents, and relatives/friends will help plan your event better and your photographer will have plenty of resources to stay focused and organized.

In some cases, only the bride is left with the makeup artist in the morning. Make sure this does not happen as you should have at least one person with you. Because of non-stop excitement, being emotional, having mixed feelings, sometimes, the bride does not eat or drink anything since the morning. Keep some food/snack and a bottle of water in your suite to keep yourself well hydrated.
